PERSONAL DESIGN STATEMENT
I am a confident and enthusiastic landscape and garden designer, with a passion for Nature and the environment. This stems from my rural upbringing, and lasting interest with the outdoors.
From a young age I have been involved in Horticulture, improving the environment for people, communities and wildlife, and my degree course at Writtle College has enabled me to gain further horticultural knowledge and design experience.

My lifelong interest in art has always encouraged me to draw and paint, which has lead me to find sketching, hand drawing and rendering much more natural and quicker to generate than computer imagery. I am also a keen photographer which has lead me to have an eye for composition and have an interest in other arts such as dance and music.
Through thorough research and observation of the context, history and sense of place of a design site, I build up a detailed understanding of the site and how it can be improved without working against the original idiom or environment.
I believe in working with Nature and the surrounding context or sense of place rather than against it, and draw inspiration from a range of different sources; such as artists, designers, similar projects and elements of the site itself.
I believe that my ability to observe and research into a site in detail, my understanding of spatial design, landscape theories, technical drawing and interest in planting combinations and solutions, as well as sensitive design skills will help improve the landscape for both people and wildlife.
